Must have financial need and little or no previous experience in the country in which s/he plans to study. Applicants must also have at least one semester or quarter remaining following the completion of their program abroad. Note that for summer programs, the minimum is 8 weeks, for quarter programs the minimum is 10 weeks, and for semester programs the minimum is 12 weeks. Students may also apply for the academic year.

Description

Freeman-ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) is designed to support U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures.
