Description
The Bender Curry Family Undergraduate Public Health Global Internship Award is designed to support a summer internship experience in a Spanish-speaking Latin American country for an undergraduate student at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. The award is designed to support students with a strong commitment to global/Latino health, but who have had limited global travel or work experience.
The internship will fund up to $1000 of a student’s summer internship costs. The successful applicant will:
- Be an in-state student;
- Demonstrate their interest in working with Latino communities through involvement in service learning, volunteer or work experiences;
- Be functionally fluent in Spanish, as demonstrated by college course work in Spanish or an assessment of spoken language fluency by a member of the Romance Languages faculty;
- Be able to describe how additional work exposure in Latin America will foster his or her career goals in global health;
- Agree, in principle, to use the internship experience as the basis of an Undergraduate Honors Thesis, thus increasing the number of undergraduate students graduating with honors and with a strong global focus.
